Teaching Awards

Instructor-G

BABAK AYAZIFAR

Babak has been a TA for 6.041, 6.431, 6.432 (twice), 6.343 (twice), 6.344 and 6.341. Babak patiently explains material to students and is able to provide insight into topics they do not understand. His understanding of, and competence in the subject material is impressive; he consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to all aspects of teaching and provides an excellent environment for learning.

Harold L. Hazen Award

CYNARA C. WU

Cynara has been a TA three times. Faculty and students say that teaching is Cynara's "calling." She stimulates interaction among her students by asking questions rather than giving answers, and seeks alternative ways to help students understand some of the more difficult examples.

Frederick C. Hennie III Award

PATRICK J. LOPRESTI

Pat has assisted in 6.004 for five terms, once as head TA and this past term as a recitation instructor. Faculty and students call him a brilliant teacher. Pat is invaluable as a sounding board for both technical and pedagogic ideas. He has a knack for conveying his own insight in simple, unpretentious terms.

BRIAN M. PERREAULT

Brian has been a TA for 6.041/6.431 three terms. He is able to discover the strengths and weaknesses of his students and provide the right balance of encouragement. Despite the stresses of graduate student life, he always carries a friendly, positive attitude and a warm sense of humor.

HOLLY A. YANCO

Holly has been a 6.001 TA for several terms and also has been a recitation instructor. Holly understands her students and interacts well with them. She communicates the class material in a clear and articulate way and has a poised and comfortable style in the classroom.

Carlton E. Tucker Award

MATTHEW J. SECOR

Matthew has been a TA for 6.041, 6.341 and twice for 6.011. He helps students answer difficult questions by helping them understand the major concepts rather than just the answer to the question. He is knowledgeable, confident, resourceful and resilient, and maintains his sense of humor throughout.
