Teaching Awards

Instructor-G

PATRICK J. LOPRESTI

Patrick has been associated with 6.004 for 5 terms; in three of these terms he taught recitation sections. In addition to being an excellent and devoted teacher, he has been a prolific and dependable contributor to the operation and development of 6.004. Pat has a deep understanding of the material, and a keen sense of how best to communicate that understanding to students. Pat's intellect, level of care, breadth of knowledge and talent for teaching are quite extraordinary.

Instructor-G

MATTHEW J. SECOR

Matthew has been a TA for 6.041, 6.341 and 6.011. This spring he worked on 6.011 and 6.341 development simultaneously. Matthew is always looking for new and more challenging assignments to enrich his learning experience and refine his teaching skills. He has demonstrated his attentiveness and ease with students and his ability to work with faculty as a sophisticated partner in developing and running these subjects. Matt is knowledgeable, confident, resourceful and resilient, and maintains a good sense of humor throughout.

Instructor-G

KATHLEEN E. WAGE

Kathleen is a talented and dedicated teacher who is committed to a teaching career. She is generous with her time and intellect, and spends substantial time outside of class tutoring students. She is creative and innovative in the development of new material. She has been a role model and mentor for several younger graduate students in the MIT/Woods Hole joint program. Kathleen's classroom style is interactive and she has the ability to draw students into open conversation regarding course material. She has been a TA for 6.341, 6.011 and twice for 6.003.

Carlton E. Tucker Award

O. PATRICK KREIDL

Pat has been a TA for 6.041 twice and 6.003 three times. Pat's teaching style is highly interactive. He establishes a "students-first" attitude, including a personal commitment to maximizing students' access to helpful resources. Pat is quiet, a supreme listener, eager to know all about the situation of a student or colleague before deciding how best to help. Pat's efforts have earned him the respect of the students and TAs around him.

Harold L. Hazen Award

LON E. SUNSHINE

Lon has been a TA for 6.002 and 6.341 twice and once for 6.003. His commitment and performance is exceptional, and he brings unusual enthusiasm, dedication, and energy. Lon's demonstrated commitment combined with his outstanding teaching ability has made him a great teacher.

Frederick C. Hennie III Award

JAMES C. HOE

James has been a TA for 6.823 for two terms. He helped rewrite 6.823 from scratch with enthusiasm and unbounded energy. In addition, he helped prepare all exams and problem sets, bringing his characteristic brilliance, precision, and sense of fairness to the job. Going beyond the call of duty, James helped in many aspects of the course, always striving to improve the quality of instruction.

SEAN C. WARNICK

Sean was a TA in 6.003, and 6.241 twice and 6.002 twice. When Sean taught recitations for 6.241 he did it with outstanding commitment and energy, constantly reflecting on what he could do to make information more understandable for his students. He made adjustments with regard to the pace of recitations based on how he felt the students were understanding the material.
